My Opinion/Meinung:
I’ll have to be honest, I did listen to this audiobook quite a while ago (more than half a year, I suppose) and it is a little bit of a challenge to write a review about it, so please bear with me if this is a little erratic.
Cate and her sister are witches in a world where those are hunted down. The girls in this world have to decide whether to marry or be part of the sisterhood and Cate is close to her choosing date. But nobody is allowed to know that they are witches. As Cate is the oldest, she promised her mother to protect her sisters (who don’t necessarily want that protection). And then there is the prophecy according to which no one comes out good. The sisters are pitched against each other.
I enjoyed the audiobook and the story. The premise of the book is interesting and the world creation was fascinating. I still have many more questions about the world, the history, and many other aspects that were only hinted at in this book. I hope those will be picked up in the following books.
The relationship between the sister was strenuous and sometimes annoying. I often liked Cate but also disliked her at times. Mainly because of her dutiful behavior and because of the lack of communication with her sisters.
Sometimes I felt like a conversation would have solved so many issues. I get that this is something you don’t do in that age, but gosh. I think I related to Cate the most since this book primarily focused on her. This might change with the following.
I liked the world creation and the pace, the love story was okay and did not overwhelm the story, but it was a little meh.
Ich habe dieses Hörbuch vor einer ganzen Weile gehört (das ist nun fast schon über ein halbes Jahr her – glaube ich) und es ist eine kleine Herausforderung, eine kohärente Rezension zu schreiben. Bitte habt etwas Geduld, wenn ich etwas hin und her springen sollte.
Cate und ihre Schwestern sind Hexen in einer Welt in der diese gejagt werden. Die Mädchen dieser Welt müssen sich entscheiden ob sie heiraten oder aber der Schwesternschaft angehören wollen und es ist bald an Cate sich zu entscheiden. Aber niemand darf jemals erfahren, dass sie Hexen sind. Cate hat ihrer Mutter versprochen, ihre Schwestern zu beschützen. Und dann gibt es da noch diese Prophezeiung nach der keiner aus dieser Sache heil herauskommt. Die Schwestern werden gegeneinander ausgespielt.
Mir hat das Hörbuch sehr gut gefallen. Die Idee der Geschichte ist interessant und die erschaffene Welt ist faszinierend. Ich habe noch so viele Fragen und möchte noch so viel über die Welt, deren Geschichte und viele andere Aspekte wissen, die in diesem Buch nur angerissen wurden. Ich hoffe, diese werden in den späteren Büchern aufgegriffen.
Die Beziehung der Schwestern war angespannt und gelegentlich auch nervig. Ich mochte Cate und habe sie auch gut verstanden, aber manchmal war auch mein Verständnis ausgeschöpft. Ihr ewiges Pflichtbewusstsein, was mehr Sturheit glich, und die fehlende Kommunikation mit ihren Schwestern haben zu meinem Unverständnis beigetragen. Vieles hätte mit einen einfachen Gespräch geklärt werden können. Ich weiß, dass Schwestern so sein sollen, ich weiß auch, dass dies für die Geschichte wichtig war, aber mein Gott, es war gelegentlich anstrengend. Da Cate der Hauptfokus dieses Buches war, habe ich mich mit ihr am meisten identifiziert. Dies kann sich in den nächsten Büchern ändern, wenn und falls die anderen Schwestern in den Fokus rücken.
Mir hat die Welt und das Tempo der Geschichte gefallen. Die Liebesgeschichte war in Ordnung und hat den Rest nicht erdrückt, war aber auch nur meh.

All in all, a good and entertaining book with an interesting world that I like to read more about.
Ein gutes und unterhaltsames Buch mit einer interessanten Fantasywelt über die ich gerne noch mehr lesen würde.
