Though I don’t read that many non-fiction books, it took quite a bit to decide on my favorite five books so far. And here it goes:

Kurzrezi Hörbuch: Oliver Pötzsch – Die Henkerstochter/ Die Henkerstochter und der Schwarze Mönch
The following audiobook is written by a German author and read in German, so the review will be in German as well. I don’t think this book will be published in English at all. This is a historical novel which is set in Germany and is a historical crime novel.

Meinung:
Schreibstil: Die Geschichte ist fließend, detailliert dabei aber nicht schwülstig oder zu blumig. Der Schreibstil ist klar, die Beschreibungen sind sehr detailliert um mich in die Zeit zu versetzen und mir ein Gefühl für das Leben der Henker und deren Familien zu geben.
Handlung: Nachdem ein Junge aus dem Fluss gezogen wird und verstirbt gehen alle davon aus, dass die Hebamme ihre Finger im Spiel hat und es hat den Anschein als würde die nächste Hexenjagd kurz bevorstehen. Da nimmt sich der Henker des Falles an und ermittelt. Die Handlung ist spannend und schnell. Dem Autor gelingt es die detailgetreue Berichte mit der Handlung zu verweben ohne die Erzählung zu verlangsamen oder zu behindern. Sehr spannend.
Sprecher: Michael Fitz liest dieses Buch einfach ganz fantastisch. Darum habe ich mir gleich das nächste Hörbuch aus der Reihe geholt.
Fazit:
Ein spannender, sehr gut gelesener historischer Roman/Krimi, der sich wirklich lohnt.

Der Pfarrer der Altenstadter Lorenzkirche wurde vergiftet. Vor seinem Tod konnte er noch mit letzter Kraft ein Zeichen geben, das zu einem uralten Templergrab in der Krypta führt. Dort entdecken der Henker Jakob Kuisl, seine Tochter Magdalena und der Medicus Simon rätselhafte Hinweise auf einen Templerschatz. Doch der Mörder des Pfarrers ist dem Geheimnis längst auf der Spur. Meinung:
Schreibstil: Wieder einmal flüssig, detailgetreu und dabei nicht schwülstig. Besonders das Wissen über Gifte und die Pflanzenkunde sind unheimlich interessant und laut einer Freundin gut recherchiert. (Ich kenne mich da nicht gut genug aus um mir ein Urteil zu erlauben.)
Handlung: Wieder einmal ist der Henker Kuisl in einen Mord und eine kleine Verschwörung verstrickt, denn diesmal geht es um die Templer und deren großen Schatz. Die Spuren führen bis in die höchsten Kreise. Wieder einmal ist die Handlung sehr spannend und schnell, aber auch etwas vorhersehbar. Das war beim letzten Buch nicht der Fall. Hat aber der Spannung nicht geschadet.
Sprecher: Michael Fitz liest wieder einmal wunderbar. Leider ist der nächste Teil, den ich zu Hause habe leider nicht vom ihm gelesen. Da ich nun so verwöhnt bin, bin ich noch etwas zurückhaltend und habe mich noch nicht an den nächsten Teil gewagt.
Fazit:
Der zweite Teil der Henkerstochter-Reihe ist ebenfalls sehr gut. Sehr zu empfehlen.
Sechs Monate voller Hörbücher Teil 2/ Six Months Worth of Audiobooks Part 2
As I have continued to listen to audiobooks since June last year, I have accumulated quite a list. Since I found most of my audiobooks in my local library, most of them are not only read in German but are also written by German authors that have not been translated into English. The ones that are originally written by English authors (but that I have listened to in German) are also listed with the English title.
Ich habe in den letzten sechs Monaten weiterhin Hörbücher gehört und es hat sich eine recht lange Liste ergeben. Da ich meine Hörbücher aus meiner Stadtbibliothek beziehe, sind die meisten auf Deutsch gelesen und auch von Deutschen Autoren geschrieben. Die Hörbücher, die jedoch aus dem englischen Sprachraum stammen, habe ich ebenfalls mit dem englischen Titel gelistet, auch wenn ich sie in Deutsch gehört habe.

Meinung/ My Opinion:
Ich gehöre mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit nicht zu der Zielgruppe dieses Buches, aber das Cover hat mich angesprochen und nach dem Blick auf die ersten Seiten, musste ich es dann doch aus der Bibliothek mitnehmen.
Die Illustrationen sind absolut bezaubernd und niedlich und die Geschichte ist auch sehr süß. Drei kleine Monster streiten darum, wer das schrecklichste Monster ist und erschaffen dann das Monster aller Monster – ein großes furchterregendes Monster.
Auch wenn das jetzt vielleicht etwas gruselig klingt, ist es das nicht. Die kleinen Monster sind süß und putzelig und auch das große Monster ist unheimlich liebenswert.
Ich finde es schön, wenn Bücher einen Lerneffekt haben (kann aber auch ohne leben, wenn die Geschichte gut erzählt ist und unterhält). Und den findet man in diesem Buch, nur weil ein Monster wie ein Monster aussieht, muss es sich nicht automatisch so verhalten.
I am pretty sure that I am not the target group for this book, but the cover just intrigued me and after reading the first pages, I had to take this home with me from the library.
The illustrations are wonderful, enchanting, and adorable, and so is the story. Three little monsters argue which of them is the most scary monster, and then they create the monster of all monsters – the biggest and scariest monster of all.
Although this might sound a little scary for young kids, it really is not. The little monsters are cute and adorable and the big monster is just really loveable.
I think its good that books have a learning effect (though I am also fine if they don’t, as long as the story is entertaining): Just because you look like a monster you don’t automatically have to behave like one.
Fazit/Bottom Line:
Wirklich ein wunderschönes und unterhaltsames Bilderbuch, dass so gar nicht gruselig ist, auch wenn es so klingt.
A really wonderful, beautiful, and entertaining story book that is not scary at all though the title might suggest otherwise.

My Reading Month December
First and foremost, I wish you all a Happy New Year and a great, exiting, and wonderful 2015.
This reading month actually looks quite good and was quite good, but I read most of this in the beginning of the month. Towards the end of the month and year, being in the final stages of writing my thesis took its toll and I barely managed anything. Since I am still in the editing process, this monthly review will be brief. I am sorry and I promise to be more thorough in my next reading month and the reviews of the books.
Melanie Welsh – Felicity Gallant und das steinerne Herz
I finally read the second Felicity adventure and it was as great as the first story. I really hope Melanie Welsh continues to write more Felicity books. This time felicity has to stop a witch (that’s what I call her) from erasing all the stories with a happy ending. Again a great book about friendship and a little love… poor Henry.
Gitta Edelmann – Canterbury Requiem
This is a crime story written by a German author and set in Canterbury. I really enjoyed the story, it was an interesting case, the characters were likable, and the writing was fluffy and fluent. It was maybe less crime related than I thought it would be, but it was lovely and interesting.
Andreas H. Schmachtl – Hieronymus Frosch feiert Weihnachten
A short children’s book in which the inventor frog Hieronymus experiences winter, invents a lot of snow removing machines, and almost forgets that Christmas is around the corner. Really cute.
Doreen Cronin – Inspector Barney: Tatort Hühnerstall
A children’s crime story set in a chicken house. The old rescue dog Barney is retired and lives on a little farm, where the mother hen shows him a letter in which she is told that some of her chickens are kidnapped. Barney starts to investigate. Really cute, fun, and easy read. I think it would be lovely read for kids.
Daniel Glattauer – Der Weihnachtshund
My Christmas book this years is written by an Austrian author and centers around the dog Kurt. It was an easy and fluent read with of course a happy ending, some quirky and weird characters, and a dog with two different souls.
Andreas H. Schmachtl – Weil ich dich mag
Another Tilda Apfelkern book. This special edition contains 4 stories that all center around Tilda and her friends. Lovely, fast, and fun.
A. A. Milne – Positively Pooh: A Book of Happy Thoughts
This is a collection of positive Pooh moments and thoughts. I got this as a present and although I was a little confused in the beginning, but it really is a lovely and beautiful little book.
Stephan Ort – Sorry ihr Hotel ist abgebrannt: Kurioses aus dem Urlaub
This is a collection of weird and funny and sometimes really strange incidents that happened on vacation. Either in planes, at hotels, in buses and so on. It is a great read for in-between since the narratives are really short and sweet and can be read independently. Quite entertaining.
